Flower Travelling

I don't really know which subforum this belongs in so the mods can move it if they want.

Since March I have been finding cut flowers in places where nobody put them. Not bouquets, not memorials. One flower at a time, laid down flat, usually somewhere that has a schedule attached to it: a bus shelter, a platform bench, the landing between the fourth and fifth floor of my building.

The first one was a white carnation on the 06:12 platform at Kungsängen. I assumed someone dropped it. Then there was one at the same platform the following Tuesday, and one at a completely different station the Tuesday after that, and the distance between them was almost exactly the distance I had travelled in between.

I started photographing them and writing down where and when. I have 41 entries now. I'm posting the list here because I want to know if anyone else has seen this, and because I would like it to exist somewhere that isn't my own handwriting.

Carnations are the standard cheap filler flower at every supermarket in the country, so finding them near transit hubs is roughly as remarkable as finding cigarette filters near transit hubs.

That said, if you have 41 dated entries, post the dates. Data is data.

Dates and stops, abbreviated, all 2011: 03-08 Kungsängen 06:12. 03-15 Kungsängen 06:12. 03-22 Bålsta 06:44. 03-29 Bålsta 06:44. 04-05 Enköping 07:20. 04-12 Enköping 07:20. 04-19 Västerås 07:58.

Two of each, then it moves one stop outward. Always the platform I would have been standing on if I had kept going instead of getting off.

I have not kept going. I get off where I always get off. The flowers keep going.

For what it's worth the stop order you list is correct for the Mälarbanan service in 2011, including the 06:12 which was retimed to 06:09 in the December timetable. So either you ride that line or you have a timetable in front of you.

Not saying anything else, just that the geography checks out.

I like this thread. It's the good kind of pointless.

OP: are you keeping the flowers? If they're all the same species and the same supplier you could probably narrow down which shop they came from. Most of them stamp the sleeve.

No sleeves. No stems cut with scissors either, they're broken. And no, I don't keep them. I leave them where they are and I take the photo from where I'm standing, never closer.

I decided that early on and I'd rather not explain why.

I work nights out of Västerås. Two weeks ago there was a flower on the bench in the driver's shelter, inside, which is locked, and I have the only key on that shift.

I put it in the bin. Next night it was on the bench again. I put it in the bin again and it stayed in the bin, so probably a colleague messing with me. Just adding it to your list.
